Surprisingly for a Sony, this is one of the least expensive 7 inch frames on the market. I’m sure the small internal memory (128MB) and the medium-resolution screen helped keep the cost down, but they don’t prevent it from being a very good photo frame. It has easy to follow instructions, a good remote and a very high-quality look. The illuminated Sony logo is a nice touch, but you can turn it off too. We got past the internal memory issue by just dedicating a high capacity SD card to it. It has quite a few display modes for clock and calendar, and several different transitions from pic to pic (fade, wipe, etc), you can have it change photos every few seconds thru every 24 hours and have it timed to turn on and off at certain times (perfect for use in an office). Lots of versatile display modes with multi pix, etc. 2 small issues: It wants to rotate photos to the correct orientation (landscape or portrait). You can turn this off, but it seems to not make a difference. This is only a problem if you have already flipped vertical (portrait orientation) images with another program. The frame will still think they are horizontal and flip them another 90 degrees. The fix is to leave your original pix as they were on the camera, and the frame will orient them correctly. You can manually rotate any wayward images, but they only retain the change if they are stored on the frame’s internal memory. The other small issue is that any of the display modes that feature a clock with a photo dedicate a lot more space to the clock than the photo. I would prefer it to be the other way around. Still an excellent unit, and no regrets. Read more...

I bought this as a Christmas present for my parents and really looked at a lot of different ones before selecting this. I needed something simple for my Dad to use, he is 81. He was not thrilled at first when he opened this and didn’t know what it was but with all of us there we sat him down and showed him how easy it was to use and how all they have to do is take the card out of Mom’s camera and pop it in the back and they can see the pictures instantly and so can everyone else. I bought an extra SD card so that the rest of us can take pictures go over and put them on Dad’s computer and load them on the card for them to see. Read more...

This was actually an impulse buy for me, and the only regret I have is not saving by buying it online. The D70 has quite a few features on top of its modern and classy looks. There are several modes you can view your photos in: Full screen, calendar view, clock view (although when displayed the clock shows the time the pic was taken, not actual time), multiple pics, or just random. Or if you choose not to view photos all all you can simply have the time (analog or digital) or a calendar displayed. The resolution of the screen is very nice and pictures are represented with excellent color with no visible washout, nor do they come out too dark. You have the option of turning the illuminated SONY logo (located at the bottom of the frame) off if you so choose. I like having that option. It includes a remote, but I find the IR to be a little finicky. There is a timer, so you can choose when it auto turns on and off. You can view the pictures at random with transitions. The random is not very good though. You will often see repeat pictures before it cycles through them all. Also when the device is turned on, it always starts at the same picture. The transition time is weird also, well only 2 time blocks actually. It goes from 5 mins to 30 mins, with nothing in between, or 3 or 12 hours. My personal preference is every 15 mins, but I deal with 30. Read more...
